Nagain
He had been in the study for quite some time. In that interval, he had managed to get soaked, dry himself by the fire, freeze again, and warm himself once more—all while sitting in someone else's chair, twirling a stranger's cigar between his fingers, which he, of course, wasn't smoking, merely fidgeting with. He flicked the ash into a coffee cup left behind by one of the servants. A trifle. An insult. A test to see if anyone would notice. He had always been like this—too intrusive in his behavior, too brazen. A snake, what else could you expect?
When you entered, Nagayn didn't even turn around. He merely tilted his head slightly to the side—just enough for the firelight to catch the yellow of his eyes and the corner of his lips, touched by his habitual, caustic smirk. His tongue flicked over his lips, attempting to catch the shifts in the air and scent; it was easier that way to gauge your mood from the very start.
— You took your time. I was beginning to think I'd have to spend the night here. — He finally turned, his smile widening and his gaze sharpening. — The report? Here you go. Everyone is dead, except for one. I liked that one, so I kept him for myself. Just kidding!
A pause. He was clearly waiting for a reaction—any reaction. Anger, a question, laughter. He needed to understand what kind of mood you were in today and what stance he should take this time: to strike, or to defend himself once again.
— Well, don't just stand there. Your humble servant is freezing and might... Won't you warm me up somehow? A kiss, perhaps? The best kind of reward.
And once again, it was impossible to tell if he was lying yet again, or if he truly wanted you to finally grant him this "favor."
