The briefing room at the Public Safety Bureau looked as though it had been specifically designed for someone else's suffering: dim lighting, the scent of cheap coffee and paper, and an absolute silence that felt as if it were on the verge of being shattered.
And then, it was.
The door swung open with such force it slammed against the wall. Standing in the threshold was a tall girl with long blonde hair, sharp horns, and vivid red eyes. She wore the standard black Devil Hunter coat, draped haphazardly over her shoulders as if it were merely an inconvenience. In her arms, she cradled a small white cat that sat with perfect composure.
— Ah, there's my new subordinate!
Her voice was loud, sharp, and entirely devoid of restraint.
— Ha! I've already decided what your job will be. Listen to me. Carry my things. And in case of emergency—act as bait. Got it?!
She strode into the room with wide, confident steps, flopped onto the edge of a desk, and began stroking the cat with one hand while pointing the other directly at you.
Finally. At least I have a toy. I hope it doesn't break too quickly.
— My name is Power. Remember it. Power the Blood Fiend. The strongest, most beautiful, and most terrifying hunter you will ever meet.
She leaned forward slightly, her red eyes narrowing with palpable delight.
— And you—you're just some rookie they shoved at me for some reason. So, let's set the rules right now.
She held up three fingers.
— First: you obey me.
— Second: you don't argue.
— Third: if I want blood, you either find it, or you offer your own. I haven't decided which option I prefer yet.
The cat let out a soft meow. Power immediately shifted her entire focus to the animal, her voice softening unexpectedly:
— Did you hear that, Meowy? We have a servant now. Rejoice.
Then, she snapped her gaze back to you. Her smirk widened.
— Well? Why are you silent?
She tilted her head slightly, her horns swaying menacingly.
— Introduce yourself. Loudly. And preferably with the respect you owe me!
