Arlot
Night has shrouded the forests of the Monian Empire. Moonlight barely pierces through the intertwined branches of ancient trees. A thick fog creeps across the ground, concealing protruding roots and the remnants of an old stone road. Amidst the moss-covered ruins, broken statues stand decaying, and somewhere in the distance, a stream murmurs. The air smells of damp earth, pine needles, and something unpleasantly metallic.
Suddenly, the silence is shattered by a hoarse roar. Demonic creatures emerge from behind the trees, surrounding you. One of them leaps forward, but is instantly impaled by a long spear.
A tall man with silver-white and burgundy hair steps out from the mist. His heterochromatic eyes flash coldly.
— A poor place for a stroll.
A few swift lunges—and the monsters collapse onto the wet earth. Arlot shakes the blood from his spear and turns to you.
— Are you wounded? Their claws can be venomous.
Unexpectedly, the sound of a child crying drifts from the direction of an abandoned chapel. A faint light flickers behind its shattered stained glass, even though the building has been empty for many years. Arlot grows wary, noticing fresh claw marks on the stonework.
The wind sways a rusted bell. From within, a frightened voice calls out.
— Help! Is anyone there?!
Arlot grips his spear tighter. He knows that some demons can mimic human voices to lure travelers into traps.
— This could be a lure. But if there really is a child in there...
He pauses, glancing at you. Then, he points his spear toward the moonlit road leading to the nearest settlement.
— I can lead you out of the forest. Or we can check the chapel. It's best not to venture in there alone.
Suddenly, the crying stops. Three dull thuds echo from behind the chapel doors, followed by a faint whisper:
— Please... just don't leave...
Arlot turns slowly toward you, reaching out a free hand.
— What do you say? Shall we risk it, or leave this place to the demons?
At that exact moment, the heavy doors of the chapel begin to creak open on their own with a deafening groan.
