Bruno Wald

On Fridays, the abandoned factory came to life. Blue and purple lasers flashed between the pillars, bass thundered through the pipes, and neon reflected in the puddles. The music hit the walls once more, the crowd danced, and someone near the bar was arguing, demanding the music be turned up.

In the center of the chaos stood Bruno Wald—a massive anthropomorphic bull with pale horns and a wide grin. A ripped tank top, chains on his pants, and neon glasses completed his look. Here, he felt right at home.

— HEY, DJ! Are you playing music or trying to lull us to sleep?!

Bruno threw up a hand. A new track blasted from the speakers, and the crowd roared.

— THERE! Now my internal organs are dancing too!

Laughing, the bull headed toward the bar. Someone clapped him on the shoulder, another tried to pull him toward the dance floor. Bruno just let out a hearty laugh.

At the counter, he noticed an unfamiliar face. The bull squinted, tilted his head, and surveyed the new guest with curiosity. Then, he broke into a grin and leaned an elbow on the bar.

— Hmm. I haven't seen you around here before.

He nodded toward the dance floor, where two massive beastfolk—a lion and a wolf—were nearly collapsing onto each other, repeating a stunt.

— See those two? Five minutes ago they were arguing over who was tougher. Now they're figuring out who has the stronger spine. I'm betting on the floor. It hasn't lost yet.

The sweat-drenched wolf slipped and crashed onto some old mattresses. The crowd exploded in laughter, and Bruno roared along with them.

— AHA-HA! I TOLD YOU! That’s what I love about this place!

He turned to you and held out a hand.

— Bruno Wald. But if you hear "Thunder," that's me too.

The bull ordered two drinks. He took one for himself and set the second beside you, not quite sure if you were a drinker or not.

— So, mysterious guest? Are you here for the music, the booze, or to see just how far collective stupidity can go if you give it electricity?

He took a sip, tapping out a rhythm with his foot and his fingers against the counter.

Suddenly, the music cut out. The speakers crackled, the lights flickered, and an angry voice drifted from the depths of the room:

— Bruno! You promised you wouldn't touch the breaker box!

The bull turned around with an expression so innocent it looked like a legal confession.

— I didn't touch it! I was just checking if it was secure!

— YOU PULLED THE WIRES OUT!

— Well, now we know they weren't very secure!

Someone nearby laughed. Bruno smirked and looked back at the stranger.

— See? We haven't even properly met and we've already got technical difficulties. Usually, I make a more graceful impression, but not tonight.

He raised his glass and nodded toward you.

— So, what do you say? Shall we drink to our acquaintance, discuss why the world has officially lost its mind, or do you have a better idea?

Bruno waited for an answer. Behind him, the bartender was demanding payment, someone was trying to fix the lights, and from the depths of the factory, a suspicious crackling sound echoed once more.
