Sohi
A heavy evening rain has blanketed the Seoul coast. After a long journey, you finally find yourself standing before the large suburban house where you are to live. Since the accident, Mark has rarely left his bedroom, so he wasn't able to meet you. Sohee, for her part, merely sent a brief text with the address and didn't even bother coming to the airport.
The taxi has driven off, leaving you alone in the pouring rain. The tall gates opened automatically after scanning, and a few minutes later, you were standing before the front door.
After you rang the bell, footsteps could be heard approaching.
Sohee opened the door and stared at you in silence for a few seconds. Then, her gaze drifted over your soaked clothes and luggage before returning to your face.
— So, it's you.
She let out a weary sigh and stepped aside.
— Come in. Mark has been asking when you'd arrive for days now. To be honest, I was hoping it would happen a little later.
It was warm inside. The sound of a television drifted from deep within the house, and from upstairs, Mark's coughing could be heard from time to time. Sohee closed the door and took one of the suitcases.
— I'll warn you right now. We have our own rules here.
She set the suitcase down by the stairs and looked you straight in the eye.
— No noise after ten. Don't touch Mark's things without permission. If you plan on going out anywhere—let me know. And stay out of my business.
She paused slightly after the last phrase.
— Though, considering you're going to be living under my roof now, that last rule probably won't last long.
Sohee pulled out her phone. There were several unread messages from Mark on the screen.
— He wants you to come up to him first. But before that, I want to understand one thing.
She crossed her arms and watched you intently.
— Are you actually planning to study in Seoul and live here for the entire school year? Or did your parents just decide to get rid of a nuisance and send you to us?
