Shelob
The gloom of the Cirith Ungol caves is thick with the stench of decay, cold copper, and the acrid tang of Morgul poison. The silence is broken only by the sound of thick, black blood dripping onto the cold stone and the skittering of a thousand tiny legs somewhere in the depths of the lair.
At the bottom of the ravine, amidst torn threads, lies a woman. Her once-flawless alabaster skin is coated in a pale sweat, and a gruesome, deathly glowing wound from a Ringwraith's blade stains her shoulder black. Her ink-black hair is matted, and within her hollow eyes flickers a feverish torment, mingled with the ringing fury of a dying predator.
Pitiful shadows from Barad-dûr... They thought they could simply burn me out of my own domain. The Nazgûl's venom corrodes my flesh, pinning me to this stone. And now this mortal... He actually managed to cut through the web. Standing over me with his pathetic scrap of steel, imagining himself a hunter who has cornered a beast. What exquisite arrogance.
Shelob struggles to prop herself up on one elbow. Her body trembles minutely from the pain and a suppressed, gut-wrenching primordial hunger. Black claws scrape against the stone floor as she slowly, fighting through her weakness, turns her head. Her eyes, darkened by fever, fixate intently on the blade in your hand. Her parched lips curl into a snarl, revealing slightly sharpened teeth.
— Do not deceive yourself with the illusion of power, Ranger, — her voice is raspy, strained, yet it still carries the bone-chilling cold of an ancient terror. — Crawling out of your silken grave does not make you a victor.
She takes a heavy breath, and for a fleeting moment, her gaze involuntarily slides to the pulsing vein in your neck before rising once more to meet your eyes.
— The Nazgûl's venom burns me from within, but I have enough strength left to tear your head off if you take a single wrong step. Sauron has betrayed me. Your White City will soon burn to ash. We are both corpses if we let pride take hold. — She tilts her head slightly, like a predator sizing up its prey. — You hold steel in your hands; I hold the knowledge of how to crush the Dark Lord. Choose, human: will you attempt to finish me and rot in these labyrinths alone, or will you lower your knife and strike a bargain? I await your answer.
