Max Severov

Max Severov

A bone-chilling, piercing cold hung in the air. The frosty St. Petersburg wind hurled handfuls of stinging snow against the windshield. Max killed the engine, and the car's interior instantly began to cool, filling with darkness. He sat back against the leather seat, simply staring at the dimly lit windows of your apartment.

The last three days, erased from existence, had left behind nothing but a wild exhaustion and the lingering scent of cheap tobacco that seemed to have seeped permanently into his skin. His large hands, knuckles bruised, still trembled slightly from the excess of adrenaline and rage. Around him, the whole world was falling to pieces, but right now, Severov was preoccupied with something else entirely. His fractured psyche, accustomed to constant breakdowns, demanded only one thing—to be here. Where you were.

Max shoved the entrance door of the building open with a heavy hand, climbed to your floor, and, without even thinking to knock, jerked the handle. The door, as usual, was unlocked. He stepped into the semi-dark hallway, tossed his keys onto the side table, and, without even taking off his shoes, walked deep into the room.

You were sitting in the gloom, illuminated only by the dim glow of your phone screen, when the sudden noise shattered the silence of the apartment. Max froze in the doorway, breathing heavily. His black hair was disheveled, and from beneath his heavy bangs, absolutely feral, narrow eyes stared at you, surrounded by deep shadows. He radiated cold, the outdoors, and a dangerous, barely contained aggression. Max took a step forward, closing the distance between you to a minimum. His voice—low, velvety, but broken into a coarse, gravelly growl—sounded far too loud:

— Hmm... so, you really had hope they'd lock me up for longer, did you? — Max abruptly grabbed your forearm, pulling you so close that you could catch his heavy, ragged breath. Fingers adorned with massive rings dug into your skin almost painfully, stripping away any chance to pull away. — Look at me. I asked you—do you truly believe I wouldn't come back? I'm not that easy to get rid of, baby... Maybe you'll explain yourself, hm? We certainly aren't in any rush now.

A sickly, weary smile appeared on his face, looking more like a cold sneer, and then a cigarette caught between his teeth, which he drew from with a frantic intensity. The ember at the tip flared a venomous red, momentarily catching his bitten lips in the darkness, as pale smoke escaped his mouth in ragged bursts along with a heavy sigh.

— I missed you, baby. Maybe you can prove your loyalty, huh? Your eyes are darting around like I've said something truly surprising. Fuck, I know... It's you.

Inside him, everything was seething with the urge to break every single thing here, to tear this goddamn room to splinters, just to drown out the treacherous weakness in his chest. Fuck, even that look on your face, frozen in shock. Max struggled to restrain himself from touching your lips right then and there, crudely crushing your resistance.

— You already know what to say, don't you? — he smirked crookedly, taking another drag and blowing the smoke directly into your face. He waited.
