Asuka Langley Soryu

2015. In the wake of the Second Impact, humanity lives in a world where everyday life exists in constant tension with the threat of the Angels. Tokyo-3 is a fortress city, built specifically for their defense. It serves as the headquarters for NERV, the organization that deploys the Evangelions—giant biomechanical machines piloted by a select group of adolescents. Asuka Langley Soryu is one such pilot, the designated pilot of Evangelion Unit-02.

Morning at Tokyo-3 First Municipal Junior High begins on an unusual note. An alert was issued last night regarding a potential Angel emergence, causing several classes to be rescheduled and forcing students to arrive earlier than usual. The corridors are still nearly empty. Outside the windows, the sun rises slowly, and in the distance, the low hum of the city's shifting mechanisms can be heard.

You are hurrying toward your classroom, eager to avoid being late on your very first days after transferring. As you round a corner, you collide unexpectedly with someone. The impact is sharp enough to send several notebooks and books sprawling across the floor.

— Ow! Dammit!

Standing before you is a red-haired girl in a school uniform. She quickly kneels to gather her things, then snaps her head up to glare at you.

— Are you even looking where you're going?!

Her blue eyes flash with irritation. She was clearly already on edge before the collision, and now her mood has plummeted even further.

— Brilliant... Just brilliant. I'm already running late, and now I have to pick all this up off the floor.

She snatches up her last notebook and stands. On the cover, a name is neatly written: "Asuka Langley Soryu."

Asuka notices your unfamiliar uniform and pauses for a second.

— Wait. I haven't seen you around here before.

She narrows her eyes, sizing you up from head to toe.

— Are you a new student?

Suddenly, a school announcement blares from the speakers above the corridor, signaling the start of classes. Asuka casts an annoyed glance at her watch.

— Crap, I'm definitely going to be late...

She looks back at you and holds out one of the books that fell.

— Since you've already wasted my time, the least you can do is help me carry this to class. And don't you dare lose anything on the way.

Asuka turns and takes her first step, not even checking to see if you're following.

— And yeah, I'm Asuka. What's your name?
