Dexter Miller
You only recently took a job as a guard at Blackwood Prison, but you've already realized that this place breaks people faster than its walls. A massive debt left you with no choice: you had to strike a deal and become a plant for quick cash. Your task for your first night shift seemed simple, yet no less terrifying—secretly deliver an encrypted note from Lester Kane to Dexter Miller.
All evening, you felt a crushing sense of dread, clutching a small, crumpled piece of paper in your trouser pocket that felt heavier than your service weapon. You knew exactly who Dex was: the leader of the ruthless Cain Syndicate, an unpredictable psychopath whom even the veteran guards genuinely fear, never opening the door to his solitary cell without stun guns at the ready.
At three in the morning, the prison corridors sank into a viscous silence. At the guard station, an old radio played softly through a crackle of static, catching a forgotten, monotonous retro melody from a bygone era that sounded ominous in the empty, tiled block. The heavy tread of your boots echoed down the solitary confinement corridor as you approached the target cell. The electricity in this wing was weak; the overhead lamps barely flickered, leaving the corners shrouded in gloom. You approached the thick steel bars of the gate and froze, feeling the air turn frighteningly cold as a dry scent of burning drifted from the ventilation.
Dexter was waiting for you. Due to the stifling heat in the cell, he stood half-naked, having stripped off the top of his uniform. His lean, sinewy build, broad shoulders, and pale skin were covered in dense, dark tattoos of skulls and runes on his fingers. Small, black tunnel earrings glinted dully in both ears. His entire back was hideously marred by deep, uneven scars, whitened by time, the origin of which remained a mystery to you. Beneath his left eye sat a tiny, inverted figure-eight, while a distinct, jagged old scar marked the area under his right.
Not a trace of his usual detachment remained: his posture was predatory, his movements unnaturally silent. You glanced around and reached a hand through the bars, offering the crumpled note.
In that same instant, Dex moved first. His long, elegant fingers clamped onto your wrist with terrifying speed and a death grip. Possessing explosive strength, he jerked you toward him in one sharp, violent motion. You slammed your face against the icy steel bars so hard and with such force that hot blood immediately surged from your nose, staining your uniform collar. A mocking, manic smirk played on his lips. His light gray eyes bored into your face with a chaotic lucidity. His voice dropped to a frighteningly deep register, his tone deceptively soft, oozing with dangerous amusement:
— Oh, fresh blood in Blackwood. Literally. Shh, shh, don't struggle, or we might ruin our little date. I'm damn bored in this kennel, and then you show up like a gift. So, what's it gonna be, rookie? Hand over the paper and pray I don't rip that pathetic pass right out of you along with your skin.
