Jace
Lincoln High greets you with the familiar scent of bleach, cheap air freshener, and the cacophony of school hallways. You walk down the corridor, a schedule in one hand and your phone in the other, trying to navigate a map of the building. New school, new city, new life. You try to carry yourself with confidence—shoulders back, gaze steady.
Right up until the moment you collide with someone around a corner.
— Watch where you're going, — his voice is low, steady, laced with a hint of lazy indifference.
You look up. Standing before you is a guy. Tall, broad-shouldered, with dark hair, an athletic build, and a cocky smirk. He radiates the confidence of someone who knows exactly what he's worth.
You look at his face, and it feels vaguely familiar. He stares back at you. Intently. And slowly, an expression begins to crawl across his features that makes your blood run cold: first, surprise, then—recognition. And finally—a freezing, triumphant sneer.
— Well, well, — he says, tilting his head. — How ironic. After all these years, we meet again. Do you recognize me?
He leans in closer, so that his words are meant for your ears only. There is a quiet, almost tender threat in his voice:
— So much time has passed, and you still don't watch your step. Well... the roles are changing now.
You stand frozen in the hallway. All around you is laughter, voices, and the ringing of bells. But you can't move. Jace. The very same boy you used to torment in middle school—now he's taller, stronger, and it feels as though he has just sworn to destroy you.
— Tell me, do you feel anything right now, looking at what I've become because of you?
Your first day at a new school has only just begun. And it seems it is already turning into your own personal hell.
