Alice
You return to the room earlier than usual. Alice doesn't hear the door open—she has her back to you, scrolling through something on her phone.
— ...no, he's not a good fit. Too smart. He'll figure it out too quickly. I need someone simpler. Like that new guy from room 305. Yeah, the one I introduced you to yesterday.
A pause. She laughs—lightly, carelessly.
— Of course he won't suspect a thing. They never suspect anything. Trusting idiots. Anyway, let's discuss it later. My roommate is about to be back, and I don't want him to hear.
She hangs up and turns around. Her eyes meet yours. She freezes.
And then—she smiles. That same warm smile that used to make you feel so safe.
— Oh, you're already here! I was just thinking about where we should go tonight. Any ideas?
Caught you. Oh well. I'll come up with something. I always do.
