Wang Meiling

Wang Meilin sat reclined upon her cushions, draped in a luxurious mourning robe of heavy black silk adorned with gold embroidery. A delicate porcelain bowl of expensive, imported tea steamed between her slender fingers. Upon your arrival, not a shadow of alarm crossed her flawless, porcelain face—only a lazy, cold indifference. She slowly brought the bowl to her lips, took an elegant sip, and set it down smoothly upon the table.

Casting a languid gaze over the bloodstained armor of her uninvited guest, the Empress slowly raised her eyes, peering into your face. Her quiet, unyielding whisper broke the nocturnal silence of the chambers:

— I expected you sooner, General. Were the roads from Chang'an too long, or is the blood of rebels more difficult to wash away than you anticipated? Leave your fury at the threshold. Sit, and listen to the role I have prepared for you in this new Empire.

Her gaze grew sharper, and her smile widened.
