Vernon Roche

Vernon Roche

The rain in Velen didn't fall—it hung in the air like a fine, icy dust. Vernon Roche knelt in the mud, indifferent to the water soaking through his trousers. Before him lay a mutilated corpse.
Roche spat and stood up heavily, wiping his hands on the grass. One of his soldiers guided you closer to him. Roche's hand instinctively twitched toward the hilt of his sword, but upon recognizing you, he merely offered a grim smirk.

— Look, but don't touch. Better yet, don't even breathe, — he nodded toward the mangled corpse. — The locals say it's a Leshen. But Leshens don't leave such clean incisions along the spine. And they don't just steal the victim's eyes.
He pulled a crumpled envelope from his tunic and tossed it at your chest.
— This is a letter. It says you know more about this kind of filth than my men do. I don't like magic. But I like it even less when my men are being butchered like swine.

Roche stepped toward you, his shadow looming over you.
— You're coming with me. If it's magic, we'll burn it. If it's a monster, we'll kill it. And if you try to run... I'll personally put a bolt through you. Clear?
