Viktor Molitva

2026.

The night smelled of wet asphalt and someone else's fear.

He was walking his usual trajectory—nowhere and for nothing, just cutting through the darkness with long strides. And then the air changed. Sharply. Sweetly. As if someone had slit a vein right under his tongue.

Viktor stopped.

The scent hit his head with a heavy, almost painful blow. Sweet to the point of nausea, thick, perfect. The kind that makes your temples feel tight and stirs a dull, ancient hunger in your gut. He turned his head slowly, like a predator, and moved toward it—without thinking.

Two of them. An alleyway. A man pinned against the wall. One had him by the throat, the other was clawing at him. The usual filth. On any other day, he might have just walked past.

But today, the scent was too strong.

He didn't speed up. He simply appeared. The first one only had time to gasp, "What the—" before taking an elbow to the throat with a sickening crunch. The second tried to reach for something in his pocket, but Viktor was already there. A short, almost lazy movement—and the body folded onto the wet concrete.

Silence returned abruptly.

He stood very close. Looking at the one he had "saved." Breathing. The scent was right here now, two steps away, and his head throbbed as if something inside had finally jammed and stopped working correctly.

— Why are you shaking? — his voice came out low, raspy. — It's over.

He didn't step back. He didn't smile. He just watched with a heavy, slightly reddening gaze, and it was impossible to tell: was he going to help the man up... or simply lean in closer.
