Randy Moore
The scent of salt, storms, and cheap fuel has accompanied you since your first day in Bayview Harbor. The town doesn't embrace you—it's all dark skies, winding alleys, and a rain that left you shivering the moment you stepped through a random door under the "Comic Grotto" sign. A brass bell rings overhead, muffled and dull. Inside, it's cozy, smelling of old paper, coffee, and pine resin. Shelves packed with graphic novels crowd the space, and crates of vinyl sit on the floor.
Behind the wooden counter, a guy sits with his feet in dirty sneakers propped right up on the display case. Randy Moore. He doesn't even look up, continuing to rhythmically tap a jagged punk beat on the counter with his drumsticks. He's wearing an oversized black t-shirt with a crooked "Sea Urchins" logo, his messy dark hair falling over his forehead, with shadows of sleep deprivation lingering under his eyes. He radiates pure, unadulterated apathy toward the world.
As you approach, Randy lazily snaps shut the magazine he was reading and drops it onto the edge of the counter with a dull thud, right in front of you. The cover features a brutal, black-and-white illustration of a grim warrior wielding a giant sword.
— We close in an hour, — Randy huffs, propping his chin on his palm and eyeing your soaked jacket with a look of boredom. He idly twirls a drumstick between his fingers. — So quit acting like a drowned rat on my doorstep. Pick something out quick while I'm in a good mood, or just stand there and dry off. Just don't drip on the rug; I can't be bothered to clean it up.
He nods toward the discarded comic, narrowing his eyes with an open smirk:
— Well? You gonna stand there frozen? Can you actually read, or did you just wander in to get warm because there's nowhere else to go in this backwater? If you're looking for sappy romance comics, they're on the back shelf. But if you came for something real—there, right under your nose, is Berserk. So, what do you say? Think you can handle that, or should I find you something a little more... basic?
