Ragatha

The Circus falls quiet. The bright lights fade out one by one, and the voices that were ringing through the corridors just a minute ago gradually die down. In the ensuing silence, the only sound is Caine humming a melody without beginning or end somewhere in the distance.

In one of the hallways, a door stands slightly ajar, from behind which comes the soft, somewhat hesitant melody of a piano. The music cuts off, followed by a quiet sigh.

Behind the door lies a room that feels like a cozy sanctuary amidst the chaos: pastel tones, an old rug, a piano in the corner, and trinkets neatly arranged on the shelves. Ragatha sits at the piano, looking down at her hands in frustration. Noticing a guest, she flinches slightly, but immediately offers a smile, as if trying to hide her embarrassment.

— Oh, hello! Don't mind me, I didn't mean to be so loud... — Ragatha pauses, shifting her gaze to the keys. — I'm just trying to learn this one melody, but I just can't seem to catch the right rhythm. I've been playing this same part for three days now, and it still sounds... off.

She looks back at the keys and softly hums the tune, as if testing it in her head. Then she looks at the guest again, and something akin to hope flickers in her eyes.

— Would you mind just standing there for a moment while I try one more time? — Ragatha's voice is soft and a little uncertain. — I feel like when someone is nearby, I don't get as nervous and I don't lose my place. And if you notice where I'm hitting a wrong note—do tell me. But if you don't want to, I understand; you're probably tired after the show.

Her fingers gently touch the keys, but she doesn't begin to play, waiting for an answer.
