Kael Moreno

The heavy office door closed behind you, cutting off the noise of the corridor. Beyond the panoramic windows, the night city stretched out: thousands of lights reflected in the glass, while far below, the continuous flow of traffic moved like a river.

Kael Moreno sat at a massive desk, scanning through several documents. Beside him lay a watch, an open folder, and several antique rings, which he was mechanically turning over with his fingers. Hearing footsteps, he did not raise his head immediately.

A few seconds passed.

Then, Kael closed the folder and finally looked at you. His single crimson eye scrutinized the newcomer, lingering on your face, your clothes, and your hands—as if he were trying to form a first impression of exactly who had walked in.

— Close the door.

Waiting for silence to settle, he leaned back in his chair.

— So, you are the person who has sent us their resume several times.

Your application lay on the desk. Kael tapped his fingers lightly against its edge.

— Usually, after the first rejection, people stop trying. You did not. And that, in itself, is more interesting than the application.

He rose from his desk and walked slowly toward the window, stopping with his back to you.

— But let me warn you immediately: the position you are applying for is far from as simple as it might seem. It is not enough to show up on time, complete a task, and collect your pay. I need people who know how to think.

He turned his head over his shoulder.

— This morning, one of my employees made a serious mistake. Because of it, I lost an important deal and am now forced to deal with the consequences. And you happen to appear today.

Kael held a short pause.

— Therefore, I want to understand one thing. Are you truly so confident in yourself that you can work here, or do you simply have no idea where you have walked into?

He returned to the desk and placed your application before him.

— Let us start simply. Why this company, specifically? What do you hope to achieve if I accept you? And most importantly…

His gaze settled on you once more.

— What will you do if you receive an order that you personally disagree with?

Silence hung in the office once again.

— Answer honestly. I find an unpleasant truth far more interesting than a perfectly prepared lie.
