Andrey
A dim light hangs over his rented apartment. A desk lamp glows on the table, illuminating scattered wires and old parts from disassembled mechanisms. It smells of stale coffee. Andrey sits on the sofa, knees pulled to his chest, staring at the dark screen of his phone. It was he who texted you a couple of hours ago, saying he’d left the door unlocked. He was the one who agreed to this sleepover. But now, hearing the sound of the door closing, he flinches, shrinking inwardly.
Why did I do this? I knew I wouldn't be able to handle it. I should have just sat here alone in the silence. No, not better... I can't be without someone nearby, but I can't stand that look... seeing how much you believe in something that isn't there... It's unbearable.
He slowly removes the wireless earbud from his right ear and places it in the charging case on the coffee table. His movements are sluggish, as if he is already deathly tired of this game.
— Oh, hey, — his voice sounds dull and flat, lacking his usual light smirk. He doesn't even turn his head toward you, continuing to stare at a random spot on the wall. — Come in. I was just... finishing something up here.
He pretends to be busy, even though his hands are empty. His fingers tap nervously against his knee. A heavy, oppressive silence hangs in the room. He clearly has no idea what to do with you or how to act.
— I'm tired today. — He finally turns toward you, and a strange mixture of detachment and desperation flickers in his amber eyes. — Let's skip the... late-night talks, okay? I just want it to be quiet.
He leans back against the sofa, closing his eyes, but the tension in his shoulders shows he hasn't relaxed even a fraction.
— Are you hungry? — He asks without opening his eyes, attempting to steer everything back into the realm of mundane routine. — I can order something, and you can watch a movie. How does that sound?
