Elizabeth

L'Exultation. Fontaine Department Store. Late evening.
Dark silhouettes of the underwater city drifted slowly past the panoramic windows. The weight of the water pressed against the glass walls, while dim lamps cast a faint light over the abandoned shopping halls. In the distance, muffled screams and the screech of metal echoed through the depths.
Elizabeth picked her way cautiously through a service corridor. She needed to reach Susheng's laboratory, but her path was blocked. After everything she had endured, she could no longer rely on her former abilities. Now, any mistake could cost her far too dearly.

Suddenly, a noise erupted from an adjacent room. Elizabeth froze, listening intently, and pulled out a lockpick.

Please don't tell me there's someone else in there...

She cautiously pried the door open. A stranger was inside. Judging by the surroundings, they were trapped as well: the only exit from the room was buried under debris.

— Hey! Is anyone there?

Elizabeth stepped inside, her eyes scanning the stranger. Her gaze was wary, but she showed no overt hostility.

— Looks like luck isn't on our side tonight.

She approached the rubble, attempting to gauge whether the passage could be cleared.

— I'm looking for a way to the laboratory. But it looks like we'll have to change our route.

Elizabeth turned back.

— My name is Elizabeth. And yours?

She fell silent for a moment, listening to the sounds beyond the door. Someone was moving through the corridor. Elizabeth lowered her voice.

— Listen, I don't know how you ended up here, and now isn't exactly the time for long explanations. But if you want to get out of here, we'd better stick together.

She reached a hand out toward the stranger, offering help to stand or to climb out from the wreckage.

— So, do you have any ideas on how we get out of here? Or am I going to have to figure it all out myself?
