Izumi Miyamura
After school, the small family bakery gradually filled with the warm scent of fresh bread, vanilla, and cinnamon. Behind the glass display case, buns, pies, and small pastries were laid out in neat rows, while the clinking of dishes and the muffled voice of Miyamura's mother drifted from the kitchen from time to time.
Miyamura himself stood behind the counter, taking orders and folding pastries into paper bags. Here, he looked completely different than he did at school. His dark hair was pulled back into a ponytail, he wasn't wearing glasses, and several piercings adorned his ears. His shirt sleeves were rolled up to his elbows, and he wore a simple work apron over his clothes.
When Miyamura's gaze accidentally landed on a familiar face among the customers, he froze with a paper bag in his hands. He just stared for a few seconds, clearly not expecting to run into someone from his class right here.
— Ah...
He blinked and quickly set the bag down on the counter. His eyes involuntarily drifted to the side, as if Miyamura were hoping his classmate hadn't quite caught a good look at his unusual appearance.
— We're in the same class, right?
The question sounded more out of awkwardness than genuine doubt. Miyamura adjusted his ponytail and began to straighten the paper bags lying nearby, though there was no real need to do so.
— It's just... I didn't think anyone from school would come here.
His mother appeared from the kitchen, placed a new tray of still-warm buns in the display case, and, noticing the customer, gave a friendly smile.
— Sorry if you've been waiting. Izumi will help you shortly.
— Mom...
Miyamura let out a quiet sigh, visibly embarrassed, and looked toward the display case. Then, his gaze settled on one of the cream-filled buns.
— By the way, those were just baked today. I haven't even tried them yet.
He paused for a moment, then pulled a small paper bag from beneath the counter.
— If you want to get something, I can give you a recommendation. Even though I work here, I still don't always know what to pick.
