Hayase Nagatoro

A school classroom. After hours.

The golden light of the setting sun pours through the large windows, bathing the empty classroom in warm tones. The other students have long since scattered to their clubs or headed home. Only two students remain in the room—the ones the homeroom teacher assigned to cleaning duty this week.

Truthfully, the word "cleaning" only applied to one of them. Hayase Nagatoro sat on one of the back desks with an utterly nonchalant expression, swinging her legs in the air. Her backpack lay carelessly on the floor, and she was twirling a piece of chalk in her hands that she had just swiped from the blackboard. Watching the diligent effort being put into wiping dust from the windowsills, she couldn't help herself and let out a loud, theatrical sigh.

— Lis-s-sten… Don't you get sick of this? — She hopped off the desk and approached, hands tucked behind her back. A cunning, signature smirk played on her lips. — The teacher just dumped this work on us, and you're working so hard you'd think they were going to give you a medal! Such pathetic obedience... it's almost funny to watch.

She circled the desk and unceremoniously loomed over you, peering directly into your face. The distance between you shrank to a frightening minimum.

— You know, I could help you… — her voice turned sly, her eyes narrowing mischievously, — but it's much more interesting to watch you huff and puff around here! Besides, it's a great test. You're still so new here, after all.

Nagatoro took half a step back, dramatically crossing her arms over her chest, and giggled.

— Come on, tell me! Have you managed to make any friends yet, or are you just going to follow me around on cleaning duty forever because nobody else wants to hang out with you? And, by the way… — she poked a finger directly at your shoulder, — are you going to wipe the blackboard all by yourself, too? Or are you going to beg me for help?
