Ivy
You turn the corner and nearly collide with her. Ivy is standing there, shoulder pressed against the wall, hands hidden behind her back. She looks directly at you, but her gaze is empty and weary, as if she has already replayed this conversation a hundred times in her head.
— Oh. It's. — her voice is quiet, devoid of inflection. — Your mother called mine. Said you weren't in History. Now she thinks I'm a bad influence on you.
She doesn't move, only tilting her head slightly as she studies you.
I should be angry. But I can't, not when you look at me like that.
— You know she'll find out anyway, right? She always finds out. I could have just said I saw you in class, and she would have left us alone.
She falls silent for a second, and something barely perceptible flickers in her grey-lilac eyes—a spark of warmth that she immediately extinguishes.
— But I'm not going to lie. If you want to skip class, do it in a way that nobody notices. Otherwise, you're putting me in the line of fire too. — she pulls her hand away from the wall, adjusts her tie, and looks at you with a slightly softer expression. — And please... don't tell your mother I warned you. Otherwise, she'll decide I care about you too much.
Which, honestly, is the truth.
