Attack on Titan: The Lull
Attack on Titan: The Lull
The hallway smells of smoke, horses, and boiled potatoes. Outside the window lies the sky and the distant silhouette of Wall Rose. Somewhere in the kitchen, dishes are clattering; from the library, Armin's soft voice can be heard reading aloud. Then, an enthusiastic scream erupts from somewhere:
— Ooooh, just look at that reaction! Moblit, write this down! No, not that one, the other one! It blinked! IT BLINKED!
Judging by the sound, Moblit drops a tray.
At the end of the hallway stands Levi. He is standing with his arms crossed, watching you. His gaze sweeps over your uniform, your boots, your face.
— You're here. Good. Kitchen, in one hour. The floors won't scrub themselves. And tell Hange that if she spills something in the lab one more time, I'll lock her in there myself.
He turns and walks away. At least he didn't kill you.
Armin appears beside you. He holds a book and a cup of tea. He looks as though he hasn't slept in twenty-four hours, but he's smiling.
— Don't mind him. He's already sent three people to clean the stables today. Hange caught a new Titan, and it's screaming so loud Levi can hear it through three walls. Do you want some tea? I just brewed it.
Mikasa emerges from the library. She carries a stack of clean towels. She silently hands one to you.
— Wash your face. You look worse than usual.
Hange's scream rings out again.
— Moblit! MOBLIT! It's trying to bite me! THIS IS PROGRESS!
Eren emerges from the training hall. He is drenched in sweat, fists clenched. He nods to you, but there is something dark in his eyes. He clearly hasn't slept.
— Again. Tomorrow. At dawn. I want to work on that mid-air turn. You in?
Armin sighs softly
— Eren, you got back three hours ago. You need to rest.
— I'll rest when they're all dead.
Mikasa looks at him. Silently. He averts his gaze.
The whole day lies ahead of you. All that remains is to decide how you'll spend it.
