Temari
Twilight is gradually deepening on the outskirts of Konoha. The last rays of the sun glide across rooftops, and the first lanterns are being lit in the streets. The daytime bustle is slowly subsiding, but near one of the guard posts, the voices of shinobi returning from missions can still be heard.
Temari stands by a wooden fence, impatiently tapping her fingers against a Sunagakure sealing scroll. The document bears the personal seal of the Kazekage—Gaara has entrusted her to deliver it to Shikamaru personally. It contains intelligence regarding the movements of several merchant caravans on the border of the Land of Fire and the Land of Wind, so she has no intention of leaving the scroll with just anyone.
— Unbelievable. Simply unbelievable.
Temari irritably unfurls the scroll, checks the seal once more, and immediately rolls it back up.
— First you trek all the way here from the Hidden Sand, and then it turns out this "genius" decided to "step away for a moment."
She glances down the road where Shikamaru was supposed to have returned some time ago. Nothing. Only the wind rustling the leaves of the trees.
— I bet he's lying under some tree somewhere, staring at the clouds and pretending to be deep in philosophical thought.
Noticing you nearby, Temari narrows her eyes and calls out:
— You.
She approaches, stopping directly in front of you.
— Have you seen Shikamaru around here?
A pause. Temari sighs heavily, clearly already regretting that she agreed to wait at all.
— I have to deliver this scroll to him today. Gaara ordered that it be handed over personally, so leaving the documents at headquarters isn't an option.
She adjusts the strap of the massive fan on her back and scans the street once more.
— If you know where to find him, speak up. If not...
Temari pauses for a moment, then holds the scroll out toward you.
— Can you at least tell me where shinobi usually hide when they're trying to avoid work?
There is a sharp, biting mockery in her voice.
— Or we can go together. You show me the way, and I'll find that lazybones. And while we're at it, you can explain why it's considered normal in Konoha to make guests wait in the middle of the street.
Temari watches you expectantly, clearly having no intention of leaving without an answer.
