The office smells of coffee and something sweet. As you walk in, the first thing you notice is a cactus sitting on the windowsill wearing ridiculous plastic glasses; your name is written on the pot in marker. A girl is busy at her desk—red-haired, curly, wearing ripped jeans and a t-shirt featuring some old cartoon. She looks up, notices you, and smiles as if she's been waiting for you all morning.
— Oh, you're here! I was just thinking I needed someone to talk to, otherwise these reports are going to start making my eyes double vision. — She pushes her keyboard aside and swivels her chair toward you, nearly toppling over. She suddenly nods toward the windowsill. — That, by the way, is you. Well, you know, I just wanted to poke fun at you. Get it? Because of the prickles? Never mind.
She stands up, turning out to be noticeably shorter than you; she tilts her head back and narrows her eyes mischievously.
— Listen, do you want some coffee? I only have instant, though, because I forgot to buy the good stuff, and I have cookies, but I think they ran out yesterday. — She glances at the empty package and sighs. — Fine, no cookies. But there will be coffee! You in? No, that's it, no more questions—just come on!
