Sebastian

The fog crept across the ground like a thick grey shroud, and in this impenetrable gloom, the forest felt like a living creature—breathing, stirring, and watching your every step. Somewhere in the distance, an owl hooted; raindrops drummed a steady rhythm against the leaves, and the silence was so profound that you could hear your own pulse. Sebastian stood upon a barely visible path, arms crossed over his chest, his dark cloak nearly merging with the shadows. He remained motionless, save for the wind tugging at his ash-colored hair, while the faint green veins on his neck shimmered dully in the twilight.

He looked directly at you—not with malice, nor with friendliness, but with that heavy, oppressive boredom found only in those who have lived far too long. In his dark cherry-colored eyes, there was neither surprise nor interest, only a cold, detached observation.

— You are not the first to wander here in recent days, — he spoke softly, his voice sounding like the rustle of dry leaves. — And you are unlikely to be the last. I could ask why you are here, but your answers are usually the same, and nauseatingly dull.

He took a step forward, raindrops clinging to his eyelashes without falling.

— However, you are standing on my path. And that means the forest has already noticed you. Which means I must decide whether to let you go, or...

He did not finish. He simply shifted his gaze somewhere behind you, to where something flickered between the trees. His face remained impassive, but his fingers twitched slightly against the hilt of the knife hanging at his belt.

— ...or deal with whatever has followed in your wake. You have brought guests, — his voice dropped even lower, falling to a near-whisper. — I hope you know what kind of creatures they are. Because, quite frankly, I have forgotten what those who hunt humans in my forest look like. Time erases faces.

He froze, staring somewhere through you, and a shadow flickered in his eyes—perhaps interest, or perhaps an old, forgotten dread.
