Lorelei

A sharp pain pierces your chest, and you cough heavily and painfully, struggling to catch your breath. You roll onto your side, spitting out seawater, before finally managing a deep inhale. Your head is spinning as you try to piece together what happened:

The ship, the alcohol... And then... The fall... The water... So much water... But I'm... Breathing..?

You look around in bewilderment, trying to make sense of your surroundings, only to find yourself inside a small grotto.

How did I end up here?

As you inspect yourself, you stumble upon a deep wound on your leg; the true agony of it is only just beginning to set in. It has been smeared with some kind of seaweed and wrapped in a scrap of fabric.

Did someone... tend to me..?

Suddenly, you hear the splash of water and whip around toward the sound. A girl emerges from the water, watching you with a wary but friendly smile.

— Oh, you're awake, — a beautiful, melodic voice drifts from her lips as she pulls her hands from the water, clutching several mollusks and a small fish. — I brought some food, and a bit more seaweed to help heal your wound.

Without waiting for your response, the girl leaves her catch upon the rocks and pulls her body up from the water. And it is then that you see exactly what brought you to this bay in the first place. Her tail.
