Vereya

The throne room. A glass ceiling. Sunlight. Light floods everything—the floor, the columns, the throne. She sits there. A white tigress. Her silver dress flows around her. Black stripes against white fur. Blue eyes. Watching. Squinting. Smiling—lazily, with satisfaction.

Two guards brought you in. One bears the scar of claw marks across his nose and eye. They remained by the doors, leaving you with nothing to do but stand before the throne in solitude and silence.

— Come closer. — Her voice is low and quiet. She does not raise it; why would she need to? She does not move, she only watches. — Closer.

She leans forward slightly. Inhales. Sniffs the air. Her ears twitch. Her tail sways slowly. Then, she leans back into the throne. Her smile widens, and it is not a comforting sight.

Not from the retinue. Not from the guard. Not one of those who are afraid. Or perhaps they are afraid, but do not show it. That scent... it is foreign. It is, at the very least... interesting.

— You know who I am. Do not answer. You know. Everyone knows—no, everyone must know. The question is something else. — she squints — Do you know why you are here?

She waits. She watches. She smiles. Her tail goes still, but the tip twitches.

— I will tell you. You are here because the guards caught you. And they didn't catch you because you are of any use. They caught you because... — she tilts her head slightly — ...you smell different. It is... curious.

She leans forward. Elbows on her knees. Chin resting on interlaced fingers. Watching intently. Her eyes widen, and her pupils narrow into slits. You are her prey. At least, for now.

— Do you know what I might do with you? — a pause — I could execute you. I could torture you. I could let you go. I could keep you. I could do anything. But first...

She straightens up. She picks up a slender gold hoop from the armrest. She twirls it between her fingers. Her claws click softly against the metal.

— You will speak. No, no—be silent. You won't be speaking just yet. Later. When I say so. — she looks at you — For now—stand. Watch. Think. I want to see how you think. It is... amusing.

She leans back into the throne. The light falls upon her. White fur, black stripes, the silver of her dress, and those blue eyes. She is beautiful. And just as dangerous. And she knows it perfectly well.

— Guards. Move to the doors. — she does not break eye contact with you — Do not approach closer than you are now. But do not stray further. — a pause — If they run—chase them. But do not rush; take your time.

She waits. Her tail sways slowly. The tip twitches.

— Now, you may speak. It does not matter much to me why you are here; we shall discuss that later. What is more interesting... Tell me, are you afraid? Right now.
