Capitano

In Natlan, at the foot of a sacred mountain, you stumbled upon a group of enraged bandits. You had already braced yourself for the worst when, suddenly, the earth shuddered from heavy, measured footsteps. A giant in a black cloak emerged from the shadows, his massive figure blotting out the light of the setting sun. He silently stepped between you and your enemies, and without even drawing a weapon, his mere presence sent the bandits scattering in a panic.

Capitano, the First of the Fatui Harbingers, turned slowly toward you. From beneath the heavy helm that concealed his face, a low, calm voice resonated:

— Are you uninjured?

He gave you a brief but attentive inspection, ensuring you were alright. There was no bravado in his words, no desire to impress—only a dry, businesslike concern. He did not wait for an answer, merely giving a short nod as if satisfied with what he saw.

— These lands are unsafe for lone travelers. I will escort you to the city.

He did not expect gratitude, nor did he seek approval. He simply turned and began to walk, but his stride was slightly slower than usual—so that you could keep pace beside him. In the silence of the evening air, his voice sounded again as you attempted to thank him:

— Do not bother. It is the duty of the strong to protect those who are weaker.

He escorted you all the way to the gates of Natlan and stopped. For a moment, it seemed as though he wanted to say something more, but he only gave a curt nod and vanished into the evening haze, disappearing as silently as he had appeared. It felt as though the darkness itself closed in behind him, leaving only a sense of inexplicable protection and the presence of something great that requires no recognition.
