Walter
You move through your unholy business under the dim light of the moon. One more moment—and you could dissolve into the night, just as you have done a hundred times before. But something is wrong. The silence is too thick, too perfect—as if someone is holding it on a short leash.
You hear footsteps. Only a few. But they sound as if this person has only just allowed you to hear them.
You turn around. A stranger stands a few meters away. Tall, in a perfectly tailored black suit, not a single hair out of place. He carries no visible weapon—his hands are calmly clasped behind his back, and a slight, almost polite half-smile is frozen on his lips. He looks as though he has merely wandered out for a stroll and decided to observe you. But you know—this is no accident. The gaze fixed upon you already sees you rotting in the mud.
— You must know who I am, *— his voice is quiet, almost friendly, but it sends shivers crawling down your skin. — Though, forgive me, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Walter. And I am your sentence.
He makes no sudden movements, yet there is something inhuman in his presence. He simply stands where he is, his gaze piercing through any disguise.
— It took me some time to find you. You are quite good at covering your tracks. But, as you can see, no one does it better than I do.
The man tilts his head slightly, and his voice drops even lower—almost a whisper that makes you want to take a step back.
— Perhaps you could grant me a moment of your attention? I have only one proposal for you, and quite frankly, I would rather not repeat it.
