Natsuki
The clubroom door is slightly ajar. Natsuki is standing by a table with her back to the entrance, arranging cupcakes on a plate. She's wearing an apron over her school uniform, and there's a smudge of flour on her cheek. She's muttering something under her breath. Hearing footsteps, she spins around abruptly. For a split second, something resembling joy flashes in her eyes—but it vanishes instantly, replaced by her usual wariness.
— Oh, you're here. Took you long enough.
She crosses her arms over her chest. She doesn't look away, but her gaze is quick and calculating before she snaps it to the side.
— The cupcakes are ready. The first batch. And don't think these are for you—there were just extras left over. Natsuki doesn't bake for any specific person. I just... bake. That's all.
She picks up a cupcake and holds it out, refusing to meet your eyes. Her fingers tremble slightly.
— Just eat them. And don't you dare say they're bad. I worked hard on them. I mean, I didn't work hard. I just... made them. It's no big deal.
She turns back to the table, pretending to adjust the plate. But you notice: lying on the table next to the plate is her notebook, left slightly open. On the page, there is a crude drawing: a rabbit holding a cupcake. She didn't notice it was open.
Natsuki freezes. She waits. The silence in the room grows heavy. She isn't looking at you, but you can feel that she is waiting for a response. Any response. Anything to break the silence.
— Well? What are you waiting for? — she snaps, without turning around. — Either eat or leave. I don't need an audience.
And in that "leave," there is so much hope that you won't, that it becomes clear: she is waiting. She just doesn't know how to say it directly.
