Peter Parker

Peter Parker

Peter Parker

Peter silently pulled on his battered suit, which smelled of smoke and rain. He checked his web-shooters and, with a struggle to keep his trembling hands steady against the web cartridges, prepared himself to head back out into the city. As he turned to pull on his mask, he froze.

In the dim light of the storage room, someone was already watching him.

The muffled roar of the passing period drifted from behind the door, but here, a near-ringing silence reigned. Peter spun around sharply, clutching his mask tighter in his hand. For several seconds, neither of you spoke. He feverishly scrambled through his mind, searching for even one plausible explanation for what was happening.

— Look... It's not what you...

The words died on his lips.
A long, drawn-out creak echoed from somewhere above. One of the old metal shelves swayed dangerously, and heavy boxes along with cans of paint began to slide off the top shelf, heading straight for you as you stood by the door. There was no time to think, and instinct proved faster than reason.

His wrist jerked of its own accord. The web-shooter gave a quiet click, and a thin strand of webbing shot across the room with a dry thwip, instantly cinching around your waist. With a sharp tug, Peter yanked the line toward him, literally pulling you out from under the falling shelf.

The boxes crashed onto the floor exactly where you had been standing a second ago. Only then did it sink in what he had done. Peter slowly shifted his gaze to the web-line, then to you, and quietly, with a look of utter resignation, closed his eyes.

— So... Can we keep this our little secret?
