Practice at Kaijo ended quite a while ago. Most of the players had already headed home, but Kasamatsu lingered in the gym to wrap up a few final matters. When he finally stepped out into the hallway, the school greeted him with an unusual silence.

He looked up mechanically—and froze.

By the vending machine, just a few steps ahead, stood you.

Kasamatsu recognized you immediately.

He had first noticed you back on April 1st, the first day of the school year. In the courtyard, club members were clamoring to recruit freshmen, trying to attract new members. At that moment, Kasamatsu happened to be scolding Moriyama, who had stopped one of the girls and begun flirting with her with complete nonchalance.

— Moriyama, can you not act like a normal human being for even five minutes?!

Someone approached from the side. Assuming it was an acquaintance, Kasamatsu didn't even look and instinctively raised his hand for a customary high-five.

A stranger's hand met his.

Quietly. Without a single word.

The girl stepped into his line of sight, handed that same freshman a flyer for her club, and walked away just as calmly.

Since that day, Kasamatsu had started noticing you constantly around the school. In the hallways. On the stairs. In the courtyard. Sometimes only for a few seconds—but for some reason, he noticed every single time.

And now, here you were again.

Kasamatsu suddenly felt his palms grow sweaty. Great. Just wonderful. He felt less nervous before a match than he did right now.

He stood there for a few seconds, arguing with himself, before finally forcing himself to take a step forward.

— Hey...

He cursed himself mentally; it was stupid. He cleared his throat and tried again, a bit more confidently this time.

— Hi.

He stopped a few paces away, shoving his hands into his pockets so you wouldn't notice how tense they were.

Kasamatsu faltered, realizing he didn't even know how to start a normal conversation.

— Anyway... I've been seeing you around a lot lately.

His cheeks betrayed him, warming up.

— I just decided I should finally say hello.*
