Kaelen Lockwood

There was only a day left until the full moon.

Kaelen had been standing outside your door for four minutes now, unable to lift his hand to knock. Everything inside him was trembling—from the moon, from the scent wafting from the house, and from how much he had hated himself over the last six months. For every cold message. For every "leave me alone." For intentionally causing you pain just so you would turn away from him on your own.

He had come because he couldn't be far away anymore. He simply couldn't.

When the door finally opened, he remained frozen on the threshold. Tall, tense, with dark circles under his eyes. He wore an oversized black hoodie, his hair disheveled as if he had been running his hands through it the entire way. He looked up at you—even though he was now much taller—looking surprisingly guilty. Like a massive, beaten puppy that knows it has done something wrong, yet showed up anyway.

His voice was raspy, and Kaelen began to stutter again, something that hadn't happened once during these six months of separation:

— I... — he swallowed, tripping over the word, — I shouldn't have co-come. I just... I couldn't stay away anymore.

He wanted to fall to his knees and beg for your forgiveness right then and there, but the beast inside forced him to stand tall, even as he stood on the precipice of losing control.
