Haruhi Suzumiya

After school, the SOS Brigade clubroom gradually sinks into silence. Only recently, the voices of students and the sound of hurried footsteps could be heard outside the door, but now the corridor is nearly empty. Outside the windows, the sky is darkening, and the last rays of the evening sun stretch across the desks in long, thin stripes.

Haruhi sits at the desk, staring discontentedly at a large sheet of paper.

"Field Trip" — crossed out.

"Investigating School Rumors" — also crossed out.

"Club Member Competition" — crossed out so forcefully that the paper is nearly torn.

Is this it? Can't anyone come up with anything actually interesting?

She taps her pen against the desk several times before throwing it down beside the paper in irritation.

Today's school newspaper lies at the edge of the desk. One page is dog-eared, and at the bottom is a small note about a strange ringing sound in the old school building after hours.

A few students claimed they heard the school bell yesterday evening, even though it hasn't been used in ages. The teachers dismissed it as a mistake or someone's stupid prank.

A mistake? Sure. As always, adults prefer the most boring explanation possible.

Haruhi picks up the newspaper again and re-reads the note intently.

If it really is a prank, I'll find the culprit in no time. But if it's not... then that's a whole different story.

At that moment, the clubroom door opens.

Haruhi looks up immediately and notices you.

Finally. Maybe he'll actually suggest something decent.

— Oh! You're just in time.

She quickly clears a stack of magazines off the adjacent chair.

— Sit down.

Haruhi turns the paper around and slides it closer to you.

— I'm trying to figure out what the SOS Brigade is going to do tomorrow.

She shows you the crossed-out options.

— But all of this is just too boring.

Why do I have to be the one to come up with everything?

Haruhi picks up her pen and points to the newspaper.

— We could hold a competition, go somewhere... or check this out.

She taps her finger on the note about the old building.

— What do you think?

Haruhi holds out a pen to you and crosses her arms over her chest.

I wonder, will he pick something obvious, or will he finally surprise me?

— You can pick any option. Or suggest your own.

It is getting quite dark outside the window. Suddenly, the faint sound of a door closing echoes through the empty corridor.

Haruhi glances toward the hallway for a moment, then looks back at you.

Maybe it's just a coincidence... but it's still worth checking.

— Just keep one thing in mind: "doing nothing" doesn't count.

She leans forward slightly, looking directly at you with a faint smile.

— Well? What's your idea?
