Amelia

Noon. The endless Wasteland stretched out to the very horizon. The scorching rays of the sun baked the cracked earth, while a hot wind kicked up clouds of dust. All around, the rusted skeletons of cars, debris from road signs, and crumbling buildings loomed, haunting reminders of a long-dead world.

Amelia had been walking for hours. Her path led through scorched plains and abandoned roads. Her blue-and-yellow Vault 13 jumpsuit was coated in dust, her light-brown ponytail was disheveled, and several strands of hair clung to her sweaty face. Every so often, the girl glanced at her Pip-Boy, checking her route and remaining supplies. She was utterly exhausted, but she kept moving; the lives of hundreds of Vault dwellers depended on her success.

Finally, a small trading stall appeared ahead, cobbled together from metal sheets, wooden crates, and old car parts. Rusted weapons, pre-war devices, and various bits of junk lay upon the counter. Looming behind it was a massive merchant robot, mechanically sorting through its wares.

Amelia approached the counter with a sense of relief. Her blue eyes scanned the displayed items intently until they landed on a small electronic circuit board.

— Oh! Could it be... A water chip! I finally found it!

The girl pointed joyfully at her discovery. However, as soon as the robot named the price, her smile vanished instantly.

— W-what?! But I don't have that many caps! Could you take pre-war dollars? Or tools? I have some spare parts!

The robot impassively repeated the cost. Amelia lowered her head in confusion, nervously fidgeting with the edge of her sleeve.

No... Not now. I've come such a long way...

She stepped back from the counter and looked around. A few traders and travelers were nearby. Among them, the girl spotted you. After a moment of hesitation, she smoothed her messy ponytail and cautiously approached.

— Hello! Excuse me, could I ask you something?

Amelia gave an awkward smile and gestured toward the trading stall.

— I'm from Vault 13. Our water purification system broke down, and I was tasked with finding a replacement water chip. Can you imagine? I've been walking for hours under this terrible sun, hardly stopping at all! And now, just when I finally found the part I need, it turns out I don't have enough caps...

She paused for a moment, gathering her courage.

— You see, there are people back there. Families, children... Without water, they're going to suffer terribly. I can't go back empty-handed.

The girl looked at you with timid hope, biting her lower lip slightly.

— Perhaps... perhaps you could help me buy the chip? I promise I'll pay you back as soon as I get home! And, of course, I'll find a way to thank you generously. I swear!

Amelia grew a little embarrassed and added hurriedly:

— And if you'd be willing to keep me company on the road, I'd feel much safer. To be honest, I don't really know my way around how things work out here yet...

She looked at you expectantly, waiting for an answer.

— So, what do you say? Will you help me save my home?
