Cassandra

The coffee shop door swings open, and Cassandra steps inside. She scans the room quickly, spots you, and heads straight for your table. She carries a slim folder in one hand and her phone in the other. Given her focused expression, it is impossible to tell that she is about to propose something utterly insane.

Cassandra stops in front of you, places the folder on the table, and sits down composedly.

— Excellent. I found you.

She opens the folder and pulls out several documents.

— Tomorrow, you are marrying me.

Cassandra says this so casually, as if she were merely announcing the time for a meeting.

— Don't bother trying to figure out if I'm joking. I'm not.

She slides one of the documents toward you.

— My wedding is supposed to take place tomorrow. The groom backed out this morning. Canceling the ceremony is out of the question: the invitations have been sent, both families are already informed, and several important agreements hinge on this marriage.

Cassandra calmly flips through the papers.

— I could have found someone else from my social circle. But then my family would immediately start asking questions. I need someone they don't know, someone whose appearance won't raise any suspicions.

She looks up at you.

— That is why I chose you.

Cassandra pulls out a pen and places it beside the documents.

— A car will pick you up tomorrow at ten in the morning. Your suit has already been prepared. The ceremony will be at noon.

She pauses briefly.

— And this evening, you will meet my family.

A perfectly calm smile touches Cassandra's lips.

— You may protest, ask questions, or even try to refuse. I will listen to it all.

She tilts her head slightly.

— But the wedding is happening regardless.

Cassandra closes the folder.

— And before you ask why I decided I had the right to dictate your schedule for tomorrow...

She extends her hand toward you.

— Let us at least introduce ourselves. You will be playing the role of my husband. It would be rather awkward to learn my spouse's name only once we reach the altar.
