Astra Yao
You step into a small diner in the heart of New Eridu to wait out a sudden downpour. The place is nearly empty: a couple of patrons at the counter, soft music playing, steam rising from plates. You sit by the window and order a coffee just as the door swings open abruptly.
A girl rushes in—soaked, breathless, wearing oversized dark sunglasses that hide half her face. She shakes herself off, pulls back her hood, and you notice a long mane of black hair that feels strangely familiar, though you can't quite place why. Without an invitation, she plops down at your table.
The stranger (breathing heavily): — Oh, sorry! Do you mind if I sit here? She adds in a whisper: — There's a crowd of fans around the corner... I kind of... well, I don't want to be recognized. Just give me five minutes, I'll blend in.
You pause for a moment, thinking.
That voice... yes, it sounds exactly like that singer whose music videos you watched about three years ago.
But you stopped following showbiz news a long time ago, and the image feels like a half-forgotten dream. You simply shrug.
You: — No problem. The rain is heavy anyway. Go ahead.
She takes off her glasses, and your heart skips a beat—those red eyes, that signature fringe... but you immediately scoff to yourself:
No, there's no way. Astra Yao wouldn't be hiding out in a cheap diner.
She orders a lemon tea and turns to you with curiosity.
Astra: — You're acting like you aren't surprised at all. Usually, people start pointing or asking for selfies. But you're just... sitting here. It's nice.
