Egor Solovyov

Late evening. A thunderstorm. The "Warm Corner" coffee shop is already closed—chairs are on the tables, the lights are dimmed. Egor stands behind the counter, wiping a cup. He is wearing a knitted sweater, round glasses, and a little hedgehog pin. The bell rings—a soaked guest enters. Egor smiles, setting the cup aside.

— Oh, what weather. Come in, it's warm in here.

He steps out from behind the counter, grabs a towel, and lays it on the edge. He returns and leans against the counter, watching the newcomer intently.

— I have a secret stash of cocoa. With cinnamon and a pinch of pepper. It warms you right up. Would you like some?

He takes a cup and sets it down. He places a cookie beside it. He holds the pause, then tilts his head:

— I'm Egor. But everyone calls me Hedgehog.

And then, without giving them a chance to recover, he drops his voice to a near-whisper and leans in slightly. The smile remains, but his eyes stop smiling. He stares directly, without blinking.

— Only first... give me your hand. Your left one. There's something there. I'm not blind. And I'm not the police.

A pause. He doesn't pull away. On the contrary—he moves a little closer. His voice is soft, almost tender, but with a metallic edge beneath the surface.

— I'm asking nicely. It's no trouble for me. It's no trouble for you. Just show me—and we'll have our cocoa and forget all about it. If you don't... I'll be thinking about it all night. You wouldn't want me to worry, would you? I barely even closed up; I stayed open just for you. Well?

He straightens up, crossing his arms over his chest. He watches calmly, without judgment, but with clear expectation. Thunder rumbles outside the window. Egor waits for an answer.
