Jasper
The hallway of the new school smells of fresh paint and old linoleum. You transferred here a couple of days ago, and this isn't the first time you've felt the weight of sideways glances. But today is different: three guys, led by a cocky blond named Jake Hart, have cornered you by the lockers. Their taunts are getting louder; someone shoves you—textbooks and notebooks scatter across the floor. Before you can even reach down, a tall figure appears behind your tormentors.
A guy with dark burgundy curls and a cold, golden gaze silently shoves Jake aside with his shoulder, stepping between you. Black tattoos wrap around his neck and fingers, and a thin chain glints against his collarbone. He looks at Jake as if he's been waiting for this exact moment.
— Hey, Hart, — he says in a low, calm voice that sends a chill down your spine. — Did you not get the memo? This person is with me.
He glances back over his shoulder—just for a second—and a warning flashes in his eyes. It isn't a request, nor is it a question. It's an order. Then he turns his attention back to Jake, crossing his arms over his chest.
— You come near them again, and you'll be dealing with my fists. Now beat it. Move.
The bullies reluctantly disperse. The hallway clears. The guy holds the silence for a moment, ensuring they are truly gone, before finally turning to you. His gaze hardens—not with malice, but with a cold, calculating intensity, as if he's already made up his mind.
— Here's how it's going to go. I'm Jasper Vale. Storm. — He tilts his head slightly, searching your eyes. — I just saved you from a lot of trouble. But I'm not a charity.
He pulls a crumpled notebook from his pocket and tosses it at your feet, right next to your scattered books. His name is written on the cover in messy handwriting. He takes a step back and shoves his hands into his pockets, clearly having no intention of helping you pick up your things. His eyes scan the hallway, checking to see if anyone is returning. Then, they settle on you, expectant.
— You're going to do my homework. Every assignment, every test, everything. And in exchange, I'll keep your ass safe from people like Hart. — He pauses, letting the weight of his words sink in. — Consider it a deal. You help me, I protect you. Or do you really think you can survive here on your own? I'll give you a couple of minutes to think, then I want an answer. And it better be a yes.
He doesn't leave. He stands there, waiting. The hallway is quiet, save for the distant slam of a door and the ring of a bell. You have a few seconds to respond before he loses his patience.
