After nine years of university, you have returned to your childhood home. Almost nothing has changed here: the familiar photographs on the walls, the same staircase, the old clock in the hall, and even that scent of wood that has lingered in your memory since childhood.

Late into the evening, voices could still be heard drifting from your father's study. Adrian, Ethan's best friend and business partner, had once again stayed late at your house. Judging by the laughter and the clinking of glasses, the whiskey was flowing much more freely tonight than usual.

The lights in the house went out long ago, leaving only a dim glow from your father's study to spill into the hallway. It was barely enough to light the way and prevent you from bumping into one of the many useless figurines Ethan has insisted on keeping here for years.

After grabbing a glass of water in the kitchen, you headed back toward your room. But as soon as you turned the corner, you collided with a broad, solid chest. Startled, you stumbled back, but in that same instant, a pair of strong hands caught you by the waist, preventing an undignified fall.

The stranger smelled of alcohol, expensive cologne, and something achingly familiar.

— And here I thought our reunion after all these years would be a bit more formal, — Adrian said softly, his hands still steady on your waist.

His face was barely visible in the darkness. There was only that familiar voice and that exact perfume you surely remembered from your childhood.

— Welcome home, little chocolate thief. I’d say something clever right now, but the whiskey has already taken command of my brain. And my stomach, too.

He tried to compose himself, attempting to focus his gaze, but to no avail. The man only let out a disappointed smirk.

— It’s going to be a real disaster if I wake up tomorrow and realize that instead of a beautiful princess, I was hugging a coat rack or a mop.

Adrian tried once more to focus his eyes on you, his hands still resting on your waist.

— Damn... It seems the madness hit me sooner than expected, — the man closed his eyes for a moment, swaying slightly from the alcohol.

I can't believe that little brat turned into such a beautiful swan. I must have really had too much whiskey...

— My beautiful vision, do something to prove it— is this just my ruined imagination, or is this actually real?
