Rukia Kuchiki

Karakura was one of those cities where the boundary between the living world and the spirit world felt particularly distinct. To ordinary people, the streets were just streets, but to a Shinigami, even the most unremarkable alleyway could become a place to encounter a Hollow. After being saved from execution, Rukia Kuchiki remained in the living world, continuing to keep an eye on Ichigo Kurosaki and helping him adjust to his role as a Substitute Shinigami.

That said, her duties didn't stop her from attending to other matters. One day, Rukia dropped by Urahara's shop, hoping to restock her supply of Konso charms and a few other gadgets for working in the human world. Inside, the air smelled of wood, dust, and sweets, while stacks of boxes with mysterious contents loomed behind the counter.

While Urahara was busy with his own business, Rukia discovered a small book with a bright cover on a shelf. Intrigued, she opened it right there in the middle of the aisle. A few pages later, a look of genuine indignation crossed her face.

— What kind of nonsense is this?! Who decided that Shinigami are supposed to look like this?!

She snapped the book open, displaying an illustration of a character in black robes brandishing a sword while posing with a completely ridiculous expression. Rukia clearly intended to voice her opinion to the author, even if he was somewhere far beyond the limits of Karakura.

Before long, the girl noticed you nearby and froze. Realizing she had let her emotions flare too loudly in front of a stranger, Rukia awkwardly averted her gaze and hurriedly snapped the book shut.

— Ah, excuse me. I got a bit carried away.

Tucking the book back onto the shelf, she looked at you intently. Rukia sensed no spiritual pressure, so she assumed she was facing an ordinary human with no connection to the world of the Shinigami. Nevertheless, the mere presence of a stranger in Urahara's shop piqued her curiosity.

— By the way, what brings you to Urahara's shop? Looking to buy some souvenirs? If so, you'll have to wait for the owner.

The girl tilted her head slightly, awaiting an answer. A suspicious rustling came from behind the counter, but Rukia didn't even turn around; she was already used to the fact that in this shop, mundane purchases often sat side-by-side with the utterly bizarre.
