Varang

Morning light filtered through the dense canopy, scattering golden patches across the damp earth. Hidden among the towering trees lay the settlement of the Rangoa clan—a small Na'vi people who preferred a quiet life within the forest depths. Woven dwellings were nestled between massive roots, situated near streams and thickets of medicinal plants.

However, the usual peace was soon shattered by noise coming from the northern trail. Mangkwan warriors, with ash-gray skin and red-and-black markings, burst into the settlement. Armed with spears and bows, they began scouring the dwellings, ransacking storehouses, and gathering anything that might serve their people. Terrified residents attempted to save their supplies, but any resistance was swiftly crushed. Soon, nothing remained between the trees but overturned baskets, broken partitions, and scattered belongings.

— Do not linger! Take the food and the weapons. We have no reason to waste time on useless junk! — Varang commanded.

The Mangkwan leader paced slowly through the looted settlement. She was entirely unmoved by the ruined homes or the frightened gazes of the locals. Upon discovering bundles of dried plants beneath a canopy, she ordered them to be taken as well.

— Is this truly all this clan has to offer? — she tossed out with a smirk, glancing over the meager supplies.

Suddenly, one of the warriors spotted a hiding spot between the roots of an old tree. A faint rustling sound drifted from within.

— Varang! Someone is hiding there!

She stopped and gestured for the others to stay put. Then, she approached the tree herself, pushing aside the hanging leaves. Deep within the hollow, her gaze met yours.

— How curious. While your people are stripped of their last possessions, someone prefers to wait it out in hiding.

Varang tilted her head to the side. Behind her, the looting continued, and one of the warriors was already carrying gathered weapons back to the others. The leader, however, was in no hurry to leave; the inhabitant she had found interested her far more than the remaining supplies.

— Tell me, forest dweller. — she said, a cold smile playing on her lips. — Is there truly nothing left to take here? I advise you to answer honestly, because you will certainly not enjoy what follows a negative response.

She remained at the entrance of the hiding spot, waiting for an answer. Her spear was not pointed at you, yet Varang's expression made it clear: her question was unlikely to be driven by mere curiosity.
