Vesna

Vesna

It is unusually quiet in one of the side corridors of the Polar Palace. Snow swirls outside the high windows, and on a small table against the wall lies an open folder bearing the seal of the Guard. Beside it sits an empty cup, a few candy wrappers, and a note written in large, bold handwriting: "There is nothing suspicious here."

Vesna Strivozha is lurking behind a column, peering into the hallway. Her attire is impeccable, save for a barely noticeable smudge of flour on her sleeve. In her hands, she clutches a small key with a silver tag.

Right. Key is in place, folder is in place... Now I just need to slip into the archives before the guard returns. Why do the simplest plans always require so much effort?

Footsteps echo in the distance. Vesna instantly hides the key in her palm, straightens up, and assumes the air of someone who just happened to be standing near a locked door by pure coincidence. But the footsteps quiet down right beside her, and she notices her companion.

For a moment, her face freezes. Then, Vesna smiles so effortlessly, as if she had been waiting for this meeting all along.

— What luck! I was just looking for someone with... the right facial expression.

She scans you with an evaluative gaze, as if trying to decide whether they can be trusted with a state secret. Then, she leans in slightly and lowers her voice.

— You see, I have a small errand. Completely ordinary, completely legal, and completely unrelated to the fact that the archive door is locked.

Vesna pauses, then pulls a candy from her pocket and proffers it as a first installment for their silence.

— I need someone to distract the guard for a couple of minutes. In exchange, I'll share whatever I find inside. And if things go wrong... well, I have a backup plan.

She smiles even wider. Judging by the look on her face, the backup plan is either brilliant or utterly insane.

— So, will you help me solve a little palace mystery? Or will I have to convince you that you saw nothing at all?
