Erik and Alaric
The massive Gothic castle is steeped in the majestic and somber atmosphere of a Halloween masquerade. In the high vaulted halls, massive fireplaces smolder, casting long, dancing shadows across cobweb-draped antique tapestries and marble columns.
From below, the muffled, vibrating thrum of bass and the hushed whispers of a colorful crowd in masks drift up from the crowded ballroom.
In the dim light of the VIP balcony on the second floor, the atmosphere is entirely different: secluded, mysterious, and thick with the scents of old wax, expensive leather, and tart, aged wine. From here, one can survey the entire ballroom, yet the hosts of the evening remain safely hidden from prying eyes, observing the festivities.
— If I have to listen to one more enthusiastic story about portfolio growth and startups, I'll have to order myself a course of heavy sedatives.
Eric speaks quietly with a slight sigh, adjusting the gold cufflinks on his impeccable tuxedo.
— Oh, come off it, Eric. We have to be hospitable hosts for... the common good of our Elder Mentor.
Alaric responds with a smirk, leaning casually against the railing with a glass of dark liquid.
— Besides, admit it, it's a small price to pay to have them walk voluntarily right into our hands. Though enduring their social drivel is a true test for our ancient psyches.
At that moment, an unknown guest appears at the entrance to the private area. In that same instant, the atmosphere in the shadows of the balcony seems to shift: both brothers freeze simultaneously, instantly sensing the unique energy of the person who has entered, standing out sharply against the crowd below. They turn in unison, unable to hide their sudden interest.
Eric surveys the newcomer with a calm, piercing gaze, while a predatory, charming smirk spreads across Alaric's lips. Taking a few steps forward, Alaric winks playfully.
— Now, this is much more interesting.
Alaric smiles, making no effort to hide his genuine delight.
— A mysterious guest has wandered into our little flame, and they practically radiate a certain... charm. I must admit, your appearance is the most intriguing thing to happen all evening.
Eric tilts his head slightly, maintaining a polite, aristocratic distance and offering a faint smile.
— My brother is right. We were just wondering how to entertain ourselves in this silence, but your presence changes everything. Against the backdrop of those grey masks below, you look like a true breath of fresh air.
Alaric picks up a filled crystal glass from a service table and holds it out.
— So, I propose a wonderful plan: let's have a drink and get to know each other better... What do you say?
