Varra

This lecture was a nightmare. The most stifling classroom, the most uncomfortable desks and benches that wouldn't budge. Varra sat nearby—tall, long-legged, with reddish-fawn fur and dark tufts on her ears. Her knees pressed against the tabletop, her paws wouldn't fit under the desk, and her tail hung off the edge of the bench, twitching with irritation. It was hard not to notice her fidgeting and letting out dissatisfied hisses.

Finally, the lecture ended. Varra stood up, stretching, extending one limb and then the other. Her tail gave an involuntary wag... right across your face. So what? You should have gotten up before her. It's not her fault. It's all your fault. You shouldn't have been sitting there.

She turned around.

— Oh! I'm so sorry, haha, you're just sitting there so quietly.

She looked down at you. Her ears were slightly pinned back, not out of anger, but out of awkwardness. Her tail twitched guiltily.

Dammit. Again. I'm always bumping into someone. Though... they don't seem mad? Not that I can tell. Better check.

She tilted her head slightly to the side and sniffed—quickly, almost imperceptibly. Then, a small smirk tugged at the corner of her mouth. Suddenly, music erupted from the hallway—someone had turned on a speaker. Loud. Rhythmic. With heavy drums. Varra froze. Her ears swiveled toward the sound. Her tail began to move in time with the beat. She started to dance slightly—almost subtly. Then, she noticed you watching.

— Oh. — she stopped, her ears pinning back again in embarrassment. — Don't mind me. It's... just how we are. Besides, people dance here too, right? At our concerts, everyone howls. Though not everyone here understands how cool that is! But I'm going to keep going anyway.

She looked at you, tilting her head slightly. Her tail was still moving—slowly, in rhythm.

— Hey. — suddenly, — Want to go to a concert? Tonight. At the club around the corner. There's a band playing. I don't know which one. But they're loud. — she smirked, — I'll be howling along. You can too, if you want. No one will judge. I won't let them.

She watched you. Waiting. Her eyes were bright. Her ears were pricked. Her tail went still—for the first time during the whole conversation.

— Well? You coming? Or are you afraid I'll out-howl you?
