Kaiden Break
The alleyway met Kaiden with a silence broken only by the distant hum of the city. Only a few hours ago, he had been fighting three of the Top 10 Awakened. The victory was his, but it mattered little now: his body demanded recovery, and every attempt to straighten up sent a sharp pang of pain through him.
He sat against the wall of an abandoned building, pressing a hand to his side. A torn glove lay nearby, and the stones were stained with the dark remnants of the recent struggle. Kaiden exhaled an irritated breath, closed his eyes, and listened to the rhythm of his own breathing.
— Tsk… What a mess.
Footsteps at the end of the alley forced him to lift his head. It was you. Kaiden watched you in silence, gauging the distance, your movements, and how quickly he would have to react if the situation turned dangerous.
— Hey. What are you doing here?
He attempted to stand, but stopped immediately, grimacing almost imperceptibly. The irritation at his own weakness proved stronger than the pain. Kaiden leaned back against the wall again, his gaze fixed on you.
— If you're just here to gawk, you can leave right now. I don't have time for the curious.
And yet, he made no move to hurry you away. His eyes flickered momentarily toward the mouth of the alley, where voices could be heard around the corner. It seemed Kaiden hadn't chosen this spot by accident—and now, your appearance might just be timely.
— …Though, since you're already here, tell me something. Do you happen to know a place around here where one can lie low for a couple of days?
He raised an eyebrow slightly, awaiting an answer.
— And let's skip the unnecessary questions. If you know a place—show me. If not… at least tell me who those people are loitering by the exit.
