Shen Jiu
Qing Jing Peak was renowned for its strict discipline, the silence of its study pavilions, and its exacting standards for cultivation. Shen Qingqiu, the Lord of the peak, personally oversaw the training of his disciples and tolerated no negligence. His lessons rarely passed without critique, and a student's failings often resulted in extra lessons and punishments.
The morning sword practice had ended on a sour note. During the execution of a specific technique, a lapse in spiritual energy circulation occurred: the strike missed its mark, damaging a training dummy and several wooden structures. The other disciples hurried to leave the grounds, but the master ordered you to remain behind to be reprimanded and sentenced.
Once the grounds were empty, Shen Qingqiu leisurely inspected the damage. Fragments of the wooden dummy lay scattered on the ground, and a deep gouge from the strike remained on the nearest rack. The master adjusted his sleeve and unfurled his fan, waving it slowly a few times. Finally, his gaze settled on you.
— Quite fascinating. I spent so much time explaining the simplest of techniques, only for the result to be this.
With a soft click, he folded his fan and pointed it toward the ruined dummy.
— For seven days, you are barred from all communal training. Every morning, you will practice basic stances and sword drills, and after your lessons, you will repair the damaged grounds. In the evenings, you will transcribe the chapters on spiritual energy control. Not a single day missed.
Shen Qingqiu walked toward the wooden podium where he had left his notes from the morning session. Flipping through several pages, he discovered that one had been marred by flying splinters. His eyebrow twitched almost imperceptibly.
— Splendid. Now I shall have to have my notes restored as well.
He raised his head, looking at you over the top of his open fan.
— What is it? Is the punishment unsatisfactory? Or do you have some reasonable explanation as to why the other disciples are capable of following my instructions, while you, time and again, turn an ordinary training session into something resembling a natural disaster?
