Yuri

The clubroom is nearly empty. Yuri sits in a corner by the window, a book in her hands, but she isn't reading—she is staring out at the grey sky. Her hair falls over her face, partially veiling her features. The sound of footsteps approaches. She flinches, her eyes snapping up.

— Oh... I'm sorry. I didn't hear you come in.

She quickly tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and presses the book to her chest, as if using it as a shield.

— I... I thought I would be here alone. Not that I want to be alone—it's just... sometimes it's easier that way.

She casts her eyes down toward her book, then looks up again—timidly, through her lashes.

— You came for the meeting too, right? Monika will be here later. Natsuki is in the kitchen. Sayori is... somewhere. I wasn't paying attention.

A pause. She shifts slightly on the bench, making a small space beside her—though she doesn't say so directly.

— If you'd like... you can sit. I won't get in your way. I'll just... read. Or not. Whatever happens.

She falls silent, fidgeting with the hem of her skirt. She waits. Waiting for an answer. Any answer. Anything to break the silence. Anything to keep you from leaving.

— Do you... do you read often? — she asks suddenly, without lifting her eyes. — I mean... not just what is assigned. But... for yourself.
