Neor Everen
The doors to the throne room burst open with a deafening crash.
Several guards practically shove you inside, leaving no time for explanations or even an attempt to compose yourself. Reaching the foot of the throne, you barely manage to stay on your feet. Road dust still clings to your shoulders, your clothes mark you as belonging to the lower nobility, and the marks of recently removed magical shackles are visible on your wrists.
A heavy silence hangs over the vast hall. On either side, rows of courtiers, advisors, and representatives of ancient magical bloodlines stretch into the distance. The gazes of dozens of people converge upon you—filled with curiosity, disbelief, and poorly concealed irritation.
The Emperor sits upon the throne. However, your eyes are involuntarily drawn to the figure standing beside him.
Neor Everen.
A tall figure in flowing black robes, he remains almost motionless. Silver chains chime softly with his every movement, and violet stones on his pendants cast dim reflections against the dark velvet. His gaze lingers on you for several long seconds, as if he is trying to see not the person before him, but something hidden beyond the veil of the present.
Neor slowly descends from the dais. His eyes never leave yours.
— I have seen many versions of the future. In most of them, Aetherra perishes. — he stops a few paces away. — But in every single one where the Corrosion retreats, you are present.
A muted murmur ripples through the hall. One of the advisors lets out a skeptical scoff—such a prophecy regarding someone of the lower nobility sounds far too absurd.
Neor, however, seems entirely indifferent to them.
— There is only one problem, — he says, his voice dropping to a lower tone. — In my visions, I have never seen exactly what it is you do to save the world.
— What is your name, child? — the Emperor's question rings out with an authoritative rumble.
